Our CSR projects are carried out through our foundation, The Sandy Vohra Foundation. The Sandy Vohra Foundation was started in 2009 in memory of our late brother Sandy Vohra and the works are now also inspired by the memory of our late father, Gurcharan Singh Vohra (Chani).
Both Sandy and Chani were visionaries, leaders and passionate conservationists. They strongly believed in preserving THE ENVIRONMENT and changing the world around them, advocating life to blend with nature.
The Foundation's purpose is to initiate and to partner with projects that enhance the world around us. Our CSR projects focus on the environment; providing education, building shelter for the homeless, orphaned or less fortunate children and sponsoring medical related projects to improve and to save lives.
The Foundation commenced its first project with the planting of 30,000 trees in a 3 km stretch of the Nairobi National Park, in conjunction with Greenline and KWS. In January 2010, we started the fencing of the allocated stretch of 3 km together with KWS. Then we commissioned the drilling of a borehole to fulfill the water requirements for the whole Greenline project. To date there are 30,000 trees planted, all species being indigenous to the park.
Our education projects include sponsoring many kids through primary/ secondary school and even university. We have also worked with Bosco Boys foundation. In an effort to tackle the issue of street children, Don Bosco started a programme through Bosco Boys. At present, Bosco Boys has three centres namely Bosco Boys Kariua, Bosco Boys Langata - the reception centre where new boys are first sent for 6 months to 1 year; and Bosco Boys Kuwinda - the main centre. Educational and hostel facilities are located here. At present, the programme has over 400 children enrolled.
Another project close to our heart is the Kenya Paraplegic Organisation where we are assisting to build a paraplegic hospital for spinal injury rehabilitation. We have also worked with the spinal injury hospital for many years. Recently we have supported various patients through sponsorship of their surgery and medical treatments.
